Irulan - August 4
The card this morning was the four of swords, reversed. Feeling stuck or burned out from a misuse of resources or energy. Slight delay in heading out due to first making a new rope ladder, and then opening the door to see pitch black skies raining fire, something called the Hellmouth clouds. Third day we headed out in the normal rain with three henchmen. We headed back down to the room with all the skeletons. Because them all coming to life on us somehow seemed like a great idea to Anister and Bancroft. Skeletons wearing robes on slabs, thorns and roses motif on the slabs. Bancroft said that meant Nergal.
Clarisse touched one skeleton while the rest of us huddled by the door. As expected, they all got up, a mix of zombies and skeletons. We aren't lucky enough to get one at a time. All of the eyes glowed. I was afraid we'd need nonexistent magic weapons, but Anister seemed to do damage with an arrow. Bancroft tried to turn undead, and the two in front screamed, trying to drown out his prayer. The prayer only affected two of them, and only one ran in fear. Everyone else ran out the door, leaving me in front of the door as the zombies surrounded me. I got hit three times.
I swung at one then went through the door to try to keep from being surrounded by the approaching skeletons as well as the zombies. Manx, the man at arms, got hit, looking worse for wear. So much for hoping the henchman would help us kill the undead. Something with bows shot at one of the torchbearers. Bancroft muttered that the undead seemed more intelligent than usual. They might be able to open the doors. One of the torches went out, leaving Bancroft in the dark, so he couldn't turn undead again. He cast light. Manx ran, and the zombies flooded through the open space he left.
I hit a skeleton next to me, but couldn't run for the stairs because the surviving torch bearer was in the way and for some reason, I couldn't move past an ally like I normally would be able to. I was stuck. I heard a scream in the dark next to me as something killed the torchbearer. Anister killed one before running up the stairs to Clarisse. Banroft tried to turn the undead around us, killing or fearing half of the undead. It seemed like we might be able to get out. Then a zombie in front of me that wasn't dead or running swung at me …
