Nimue - Sept 22

I gave Bancroft money for a new shield, in appreciation for him standing between the monsters and my squishy self. Anister started talking about how to make a bunch of flame arrows, as if he thinks going down to fight the mummy again is a good idea. Does he think the mummy won't move to drain our lives while he tries shoots it? We tried to talk him out of it. We're all for going back down and looking at other rooms, but not the mummy.

We went to the wet door right next to the stairs. There was a room with burial alcoves, and a door to a hallway with lots of webs that we quickly closed. There was a rubble pile that looked like something had busted out of one wall, leaving a bare space. We started searching the alcoves, but a bunch of skeletons crawled out, their bones calcified like stone. Bancroft tried to turn them, and one vaporized, 4 ran, and two were unaffected. Charlotte, who has obviously been practicing, did more damage with her sling than I did with magic missile. We all took down one and focused on the second.

Magic missile failed, so I headed for the door, having no other way to do damage. The other skeletons were going to be back to normal soon, we had no luck hitting the remaining unturned one, and it was time to leave. We all made our way out the door, closing it behind us. There was some discussion about opening the door, letting the skeletons out, and Bancroft turning them so they'd run down the hallway, as if the undead have ever gone where they want them to. Or like Bancroft's turn was guaranteed to work. I suggested we go down the hallway in front of us that we hadn't been down yet. But, the questionable life decisions continued. Anister opened the door, and said he didn't see skeletons, and then they crawled back out of their burial alcoves and attacked him. Sigh.

I lent Bancroft a little magic assist so his turn prayers could penetrate, but three were unaffected. One ran and one was destroyed. Anister dodged three attacks and ran out of the room. They decided to see if the skeletons followed him out of the room, so I recast mage armor. Apparently we weren't doing the smart thing and just running like hell before they caught up to us. Bancroft and Anister wanted to try to whittle the skeletons down by attrition. They went in the room for another round. One pushed through them, downing Charlotte. I dragged her body up to the landing, Ulstad the torch bearer following me. I heard banging on the closed door, which meant the other skeletons in the room were trying to get out.

Bancroft and Anister moved to block the stairs as the skeletons opened the door and swarmed them. I turned Charlotte over and did what I could to treat her head wound, and she opened her eyes. We kept moving up the stairs while Bancroft and Anister made a fighting retreat behind us.
