One scorpion tried to hit a statue, but just scraped it. Bancroft ran to the slab and threw the other bowl of gems on top of the first scorpion. The statue next to me hit me. The other statue went for Bancroft, not the scorpion with the gems on it, but it missed. Then the light went out. I could hear the scorpions scraping against the statues, but it didn’t sound like they were doing any damage. Bancroft yelled to grab the gem and run, then threw something towards the entrance. I heard something shatter, presumably the vase. I lit a torch, and moved to put it on the slab. Bancroft and I watched the statues and scorpions go at each other. With all the scorpions in the barrow, the stairs were clear.
Bancroft ran for it, bounced off a scorpion, dodged under a statue, and made it to the stairs. But a statue followed him and grabbed him and pulled him back in. Riyou, hiding outside, hit the statue with an arrow. I set the torch on the slab and moved to the side of the barrow, in preparation for making a run for the stairs. Waylan ran to the stairs, pushed past the statue, and ran off, but he wasn’t holding the sack, so he must have dropped it. The statue holding Bancroft started swinging at him. The stairs were again blocked by the statue and the third scorpion, so I tried to pull Bancroft free, but couldn’t beat the statue’s grip. The third scorpion went up the stairs, found Riyou, and stung her with its tail. Bancroft made a mighty swing and crumbled the statue holding him, then ran up the stairs.
I grabbed the gem under the first scorpion, and ran up the stairs. The other statue came after me, dragging the two scorpions, since their tails were stuck in it. I shoved past the scorpion at the top, and gave it a solid hit. The scorpion came after Riyou, leaving the way clear for Bancroft to run. The three of us ran for town. We were investigating the ruby gem in the tavern when Seacrock stumbled in. It’s amazing he lived, again.
Tarot card in the morning was the Star, don’t lose hope when facing something seemingly unattainable. Which, all of us living through yesterday, yeah. We went back to the barrow. Immediately heard chittering. Guess the scorpions won. One grabbed Riyou and dragged her in. The other missed her. I hit the second one. Seacrock cast magic missile at the one holding Riyou. Bancroft hit the same one I did, killing it. Now we can both go for the one on Riyou without worrying about being attacked from behind. Riyou squirmed out of the clutches of the scorpion, I bloodied it, and Seacrock killed it with another magic missile. We searched for the sack of gems and picked up the rest of the gems on the floor.
Fresh off our survival, killing monsters, and selling gems, we went carousing. I was bored, and just babysat the rest who can’t hold their alcohol. Bancroft arm wrestled a bunch of big lugs and did so well he cracked the table, won the adoration of the whole tavern, and there’s a plaque up now. Riyou had her fortune told by a shady old woman with one eye about destroying the evil that she read on the tablet. Seacrock, exhausted from his two near death experiences, went to bed early.
