Today’s card was the Queen of Swords, wisdom, clearness, determination. Wisdom isn’t my strong point. After a day of cards with Bancroft, the next day we decided to go dig (D23). We heard frogs in the distance, and two showed up about an hour into digging. I think they wanted the dog for lunch. The dog dodged their tongues. I one-shot one of them. The other one hopped away, finding lunch wasn’t so easy as it thought. We got back to digging, and thought we were close to finding the entrance when we were accosted by six zombies. They were sniffing, so they probably wanted to eat the dead frog. We went back to town and left them to it.
We went back to the barrow the next day and got back to digging. But out of the pile of giant frog guts came 5 zombies. I guess they were resting after their frog feast. Bancroft made the two on him disappear with some prayer. I hit one on me. The one on the dog killed it and started eating it. Bancroft said another prayer, making one disappear and one run. The one I hit swiped at me, but Bancroft said another prayer, and it disappeared. Seacrock ran away, but came back to mourn the dog. Before we had a chance to get back to digging, two giant scorpions arrived, attracted by the dead bodies. We ran a distance away and left them to eat, waiting for them to leave. But it got weirdly quiet, and reminded me of the corpse things, so we ran.
When we got back to town, everyone was wearing silvery clothes, in contemplative moods, and waiting for the silver moon to rise. Another weird St. Ygg thing. Seacrock hired a couple guys, and we went back out the next morning. An eyeless undead with long clawed arms walked by, but didn’t seem to see us? That was weird. But we had a good day of digging. On the way back, 4 skeletons were watching something in the other direction. We just sidled on by. The next day, we dug up the entrance and went in. Big room with obsidian statues of warriors. In the middle was a stone slab with wooden bowls and an urn on it. There were gems in the bowls. Seacrock cast detect magic and two of the statues glowed.
Bancroft handed me a sack, and the plan was to dump gems in the sacks and run like hell. But Seacrock convinced us we should search for traps first. We didn’t find any traps. Bancroft saw one gem in the bottom of the urn. But we were interrupted by another group. A mage, fighters in plate mail, and an elf. The mage offered us 45 gold to leave, saying this barrow was special. Seacrock declined. To my surprise, the mage looked at something in the room and left.
Before we could go back to searching, 3 giant scorpions walked in the barrow. Seacrock, by the entrance, screamed and went down. Bancroft handed the sacks to the hirelings, telling them to grab the gems while we fought our way out, so I went around a statue to get the jump on the scorpion. As soon as Waylan touched the bowl, the two statues came to life. The hirelings ran for the entrance. The first scorpion came in. The statue didn’t go for the scorpion in front of it, and instead turned towards me, but missed. I ducked past it and tucked myself beside the other side of the door, hoping the second scorpion would go past me, and the statues would attack the scorpions. Nope. The other statue blocked the stairs. There’s no way out.
