Shadowmaze -- Feb 23 - Morrigan

Roderick gave me a dagger to pop the door open before the acid burned the mechanism out. I yelled at Vorn and Cade to help open the door the rest of the way, after I got it open 6 inches by ratcheting the gears with the dagger. They whined about light, so Roderick lit the end of a piece of rope from the lantern and and stuck the end through the door, so they could light a torch. They tried to shove, but didn’t move the door. I pushed and shoved, and got the door open. Apparently, I have to do everything. The door won’t stay, though, so I used Roderick’s shovel to brace the door open. He’s the only one with useful gear.

After all the work to open the door, the rest of group decided to head back into the barrow, despite the risk that the shovel would be stolen and there would be no way to reopen the door. We went right into a room of statues and an altar. There was a chalk outline on the floor that I found was a pit trap. Roderick and I searched the altar, but didn’t find anything. We couldn’t search the statues, because the giant rats got aggravated when Vorn tried. Then Roderick decided to be dumb and poke at the pit trap. He almost went into it, but threw himself back.

We went north to a room with lots of burial nooks, but it had been looted thoroughly. The giant rats followed us, and figuring they wanted their snacks back, we went west. There was a statue with giant flies on it, and we dove into a room below it. A little room with more burial nooks. Lots of gnawed bones, but maybe the chewers left something. We found some gold. Roderick opened the door, and the giant flies came right at us. I ran to the next door, but I was in the dark, hearing things creaking around me. I yelled that I needed light because there were undead, and then there was a stabbing pain. . .

I woke up in the dark some unknown time later. Not wanting to risk a light, I held onto the wall on the right side and stumbled back to the secret door, then ran for town. I had to have the holes in my stomach burned out to kill everything, and it left a weird scar. Thank Fortuna I made it out. I said a prayer for the souls of my companions that weren’t so lucky.
